Council Members

Council is made up of the following voting Officers and Representatives. These should form part of the BCA’s Council mailing list and should receive all BCA Council circulars including meeting notifications. The current composition of the BCA Council can be found on the BCA website here.

Voting Members

The BCA Executive which includes:

Regional Council Representatives:

Regional Councils should appoint a representative to BCA Council. It is recommended that this is done as soon as possible after each AGM. A regular representative is shown on the website contacts page. If the usual named representative is unable to attend a Council meeting, an alternative representative may take their place. It is the responsibility of the named representative to find a replacement should they not be able to attend and to ensure any relevant documents are passed on.

Regional Councils currently include:

  1. Ogof Cymru/Caving Wales
  2. Council of Northern Caving Community
  3. Council of Southern Caving Clubs
  4. Derbyshire Caving Association
  5. Devon and Cornwall Underground Council

Constituent Body Representatives:

Constituent Bodies should appoint a representative to BCA Council. It is recommended that this is done as soon as possible after each AGM. A regular representative is shown on the website contacts page. If the usual named representative is unable to attend a Council meeting, an alternative representative may take their place. Constituent bodies currently include:

  1. William Pengelly Cave Studies Trust
  2. Association of Caving Instructors
  3. National Caving Scout Active Support Unit
  4. British Cave Research Association
  5. National Association of Mining History Organisations
  6. Council of Higher Education Caving Clubs
  7. Cave Diving Group
  8. British Cave Rescue Council

Group Representatives: Up to two representatives of groups/clubs (two-year terms). Current post-holders are listed on the website contacts page.

Individual Member Representatives: Up to two representatives of individual members (two-year terms). Current post-holders are listed on the website contacts page.

The above positions are all voting (hence currently 20 voting positions available).

Non-Voting Members

In addition to the voting members, the following members are invited to meetings and encouraged to take part in all discussions, but do not hold a formal vote on BCA Council:

Working Group Convenors (aka Officers):

The BCA Council also appoints the following Officers which sit on the Council:

  1. Insurance Manager
  2. British Caving Library Representatives
  3. UIS Representatives
  4. FSE Representatives
  5. Safeguarding Officer
  6. Membership Administrator
  7. Training Administrator

It should be noted that, although an individual is free to represent more than one Group, no one individual is entitled to more than one vote.
